How to Program a Chevy Key Fob Step-by-Step

Chevy Key Fob Programming Explained

As you head out to your Chesapeake driveway or garage, have your Chevy remote start key fob ready to go.

1. Use the key blade to manually unlock your door.
2. Step into the car and shut the door behind you. Ensure all doors are shut, then insert the key in the ignition. Do not start the car.
3. Press and hold the unlock button on the driver’s door while turning the key in the ignition to the “On” position. (This means the interior lights and electronics turn on, but the engine is not running.)
4. Continuing to hold down the unlock button on your down, return the key to the “Off” position in the ignition, then switch it right back to the “On” position, then to “Off”once more. (This should be done in quick succession. The completed pattern is On-Off-On-Off.)
5. At this point you can release the unlock button on the door.
6. Upon release of the unlock button, the door locks should cycle through engaging and disengaging on their own. This is your indicator that Chevy key fob programming has begun.
7. Press and hold “Unlock” and “Lock” on your Chevy key fob. Hold them down together until you hear the door locks engage and disengage again. This indicates that you’ve successfully completed Chevy key fob programming.
8. To end the programming sequence, insert the key in the ignition to the “On” position.
