When you secure the keys to a new Chevrolet car, truck, or SUV at Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Norfolk, HomeLink® is one of many advanced technologies that are standard or available for the interior. What is HomeLink®? Think of it as a car-to-home technology that allows you to remotely operate your garage door or automatic gate, interior and exterior house lights, your home security system, and many other devices and appliances! Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Norfolk has more information on HomeLink®, including how to program it, in the guide below.
How Can HomeLink® Improve Your Driving Experience?
What is HomeLink® capable of adding to your busy life in Chesapeake? Plenty of high-tech functionalities! Check out the many ways HomeLink® can improve your experience behind the wheel:
Simple Programming: Programming HomeLink® to connect your vehicle to your home only takes a few minutes and the press of a few buttons.
Compatibility: HomeLink® is most synonymous with garage door programming and automatic gate systems, but it can be used for many more of your home’s appliances and radio-frequency (RF) controlled systems.
Program Up to 3 Appliances: The HomeLink® system is barely detectable inside your vehicle, but it allows you to program up to 3 different appliances at once.
Security Alerts: Many garage door opener systems can work with HomeLink® to alert you if you left the garage door open in a rush to get to Suffolk. For added security and safety when you’re leaving in the early morning or returning home at night, HomeLink® can let you control the interior and exterior lights or your home security system.
No Charging or Batteries Needed: HomeLink® is powered by your vehicle’s electrical system, so there’s never a need to charge it or replace any batteries.
Programming HomeLink® with Your Garage
Programming HomeLink® to your garage door opener couldn’t be simpler! Here’s how to get started:
Typically, HomeLink®’s main unit is located on your car’s ceiling, just above the center console. There will be 3 buttons on the unit; press and hold the first and third buttons until your car’s interiors start to flash. This may take up to 20 seconds. Note: The action of pressing the first and third buttons will act as a master reset in the future, and does not need to be done when programming additional devices with HomeLink®.
When the interiors are flashing, press and hold the HomeLink® button you want to program, while simultaneously pressing the open/close button on your garage door opener remote. At this point, the interiors should switch from slow to rapid flashing, indicating completion of programming.
Head into your garage and press the “learn” button on your main garage door opener unit.
Enter your vehicle again and press the newly programmed button for at least two seconds. The lights on your garage door opener might flash, letting you know that it’s connecting.
